Joining the Lorain-Medina Rural Electric People Fund board in 2018 will be Jackie Johnson of Penfield Township and Cristy Edwards of Troy Township. They were each appointed by the cooperative’s board of trustees last fall.  
Johnson replaces Linda Heyde of Huntington Township as the District 4 representative. Johnson and her husband, Duane, have three children: Deanna, Tyler, and Katie. Johnson is the chairperson for the Penfield Township Board of Zoning Appeals, a member of the Wellington Genealogy Group, Penfield Historical Society, and Southern Lorain County Office on Aging Advisory Board. 

Edwards replaces Lora Callihan of Troy Township as the District 7 representative. Edwards and her husband, Mike, have one daughter, Tiffany. Edwards is a licensed cosmetologist. She enjoys camping, fishing, motorcycle riding, and traveling. 
The cooperative board reappointed Pam Mencl of Rochester (District 1). People Fund board members may serve two three-year terms.
The cooperative’s board of trustees appoints members of their respective districts to serve on the People Fund board, which meets quarterly and reviews and approves applications for assistance based on needs and funds available.   
More than 300 electric cooperatives nationwide have an Operation Round Up® program similar to LMRE's People Fund, where members voluntarily have their bills rounded up to the next dollar. The extra change goes into the People Fund, which helps organizations and individuals in need. 

The Lorain-Medina Rural Electric People Fund is governed by a board of nine volunteers representing the cooperative’s nine districts. This ensures that decisions are made in the best interest of the community. Since its inception in 1999, LMRE has awarded 569 grants totaling $1,457,355.56.
