Town and Country Fire Department receives grant for radios, board elects officers and welcomes new members

Radio grant
The Town and Country Fire District purchased two new portable radios thanks to a $5,375 LMRE People Fund grant awarded last fall.
“The People Fund grant allowed us to purchase two radios that are compatible with the new system standard throughout the state,” said Chief Lois Welch. The new radios, assigned to officers, are more reliable with signals that reach farther than the older radios.
The Town and Country Fire District is based in West Salem with a satellite station in Congress Village. They cover Homer Township of Medina County, and Congress Township, West Salem Village, and Congress Village of Wayne County.

Welcoming new board members
In January, the People Fund board welcomed two new board members: Jackie Johnson of Penfield Township in Lorain County and Cristy Edwards of Troy Township in Ashland County. Pam Mencl of Rochester in Lorain County completed an unexpired term and was re-appointed to a full three-year term.
At the January meeting, Litchfield's Joe Swinko was re-elected to serve as chairman. Jim Miller of Homer Township was elected vice chairman, Janice Brill of Pittsfield Township was elected secretary, and Sheila Conrad of LaGrange Township was named treasurer.
