Members lauded for dedication to co-op at Annual Meeting

About 1,100 registered members — nearly 2,300 total, counting families and guests — attended Lorain-Medina Rural Electric Cooperative’s annual Family Fun Day and business meeting at the Lorain County Fairgrounds.

While the cooperative’s youngest members enjoyed bounce houses, Jungle Bob’s wild creatures, face painting, balloon art, and “live-line” safety demonstrations by LMRE’s linemen during the Family Fun Day, the business meeting focused on appreciation for members’ participation in the programs of their cooperative.

Back by popular demand!

In 2014, the board of trustees wanted to attract younger families to the annual meeting.
On a warm, sticky day, Family Fun Day attracted about 2,300 members and guests, which is slightly above the 10-year attendance average. The concept apparently worked, as 430 wristbands were issued to children.
Family Fun Day is coming back in 2015. Festivities begin at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 21, at the Lorain County Fairgrounds in Wellington.

Trustee helps take co-op message to Capitol Hill

Dick Indoe is a well-respected Medina County farmer. He’s in the Ohio State Fair Hall of Fame and the Ohio State University Dairy Science Hall of Fame. He has served as a Harrisville Township Trustee for 31 years.
Indoe is also a member of the Lorain-Medina Rural Electric Cooperative’s Board of Trustees, a role he has had since 2000. And once a year, he becomes a lobbyist for the electric cooperatives.

Trustee petitions available Feb. 9

Nominating petitions for the Lorain-Medina Rural Electric Cooperative Board of Trustees will be available Monday, Feb. 9, at the cooperative's office in Wellington Township.

Just like candidates running for school board or township trustee, cooperative members interested in a seat on the cooperative's board will need to take out a district nominating petition and secure at least 25 signatures from members residing in their district.

Petitions must be filed with the cooperative by 4:30 p.m. Monday, March 9.
