Nomination petitions are now available for three positions on Lorain-Medina Rural Electric Cooperative’s Board of Trustees. At this summer’s annual meeting, members will vote for candidates in Districts 1,4 and 7.

A candidate must reside in the district for which they are a candidate. They must obtain at least 25 signatures of members within their district. Additional signatures are encouraged since the petitions have to be validated as having the signatures of 25 current LMRE members.

The deadline to submit petitions is 4:30 p.m. Friday, April 25 at the LMRE office.

A candidate cannot have both a husband and a wife sign the petition. Under LMRE's Code of Regulations (bylaws), a husband and wife hold a single joint membership with the Cooperative and, therefore, only one can sign the petition for their joint membership.

Trustees are elected to threeyear terms.

District 1, currently served by Brighton Township’s Gary Rowland, encompasses Brighton and Rochester townships in Lorain County; Wakeman, Clarksfield and New London townships in Huron County and Ruggles Township in Ashland County.

District 4 consists of Huntington, Penfield and Wellington townships in Lorain County. The district currently is served by John Eaton of Huntington.

District 7, currently served by Phil Schneiter of Troy Township, consists of Clear Creek, Jackson, Orange, Sullivan and Troy townships in Ashland County.

Should three or more candidates file petitions for the same district by April 27, a runoff election will be conducted by a mail ballot of that district. The two top candidates in that district will have their names placed on the annual meeting ballot.

The annual meeting is scheduled for July 22 at the Lorain County Fairgrounds, Wellington.

The board meets at least once a month, usually on the first Saturday of the month. The meetings begin at 8 a.m. and usually last four to five hours. The Board’s primary responsibilities is to set rates and policies and to oversee the operation of the Cooperative by approving budgets and workplans, reviewing financial and other reports and appraising management performance.
