Over time, Lorain-Medina Rural Electric Cooperative has transformed from a winter-peaking utility to a summer-peaking utility as air conditioning systems have become more prevalent throughout the service area.
During summer peak demand periods, late afternoon and possibly the early evening, the ‘Cool Returns’ switch, when activated, will automatically cycle off and on the compressor during peak summer times, usually in the late afternoon on extremely hot days during the months of June, July, August and September.
The switch will cycle the compressor on and off during a peak demand period for 8 or 12 minutes out of every 30 minutes. During these cycles, the air handler continues to run and air is circulating throughout the home. Your home will remain in a relatively cool state.
Members will receive a $100 credit on their electric bill for installing a “Cool Returns” switch. After the switch has been in service for two years, a $6 per month credit will be applied to the member’s bill in June, July, August and September.
More information on Cool Returns is available by viewing LMRE’s online Cool Returns Brochure.
Enrollment for this program is available by calling the Member Services Department at 440-647-2133 or by filling out an online agreement and submitting it to the LMRE office.
